Roy Daner Richardson III's Obituary
Roy "Daner" Richardson III, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend, passed away peacefully on October 12, 2024, at the age of 66. Born on November 9, 1957, in Martinsville, VA, he was known for his big heart, infectious laughter, and unwavering kindness.
He was drafted out of Fieldale-Collinsville High School by the Cincinnati Reds in 1976. An unfortunate injury prevented him from realizing his dream and ever taking the field as a major-leaguer.
Daner dedicated his life to the service of others. He was a proud retired firefighter at Quantico Marine Corps base, having served from 1987-2013. Daner volunteered his time and efforts to numerous local fire stations to include Prince William County, Manassas City, Lake Jackson, Chancellorsville and Collinsville. He developed a deep sense of duty and camaraderie during his time and earned a reputation for his never-ending hard work and graciousness.
Daner, known as Papa to his loving grandchildren, was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who spent his time loving and cheering on his grandchildren in various sporting events and school events – his voice was the loudest and proudest in the grandstands. He would take every opportunity to brag about his family vigorously.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Kelly Richardson; his daughters, Jamie Thibodeau (Shane) and Jessica Toombs (Sidney); his grandchildren, Gabriella Thibodeau, Conner Thibodeau, and Camryn Thibodeau; and his great granddaughter, Everleigh Reece Williams. Daner is also survived by his mother, Phyllis Richarson; his brother, Brad Richardson; his mother-in-law, Glenda F. Duncan; as well as friends, and many other family members who will miss him dearly.
Daner was preceded in death by his father, Roy Richardson Jr.; and an infant son, Nathaniel Luke Richardson
Daner’s family will receive friends from 10am to 12pm Saturday, October 26, 2024 at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel, 10719 Courthouse Road, Fredericksburg. A celebration of Daner’s life will begin at 12pm in the funeral home chapel.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the American Red Cross for the Asheville, NC hurricane recovery effort or the Richmond, VA S.P.C.A.
Roy "Daner" Richardson will be remembered for his generous spirit, his love for his family, and his ability to bring joy to those around him. He leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter that will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know him.
