Rosalie Joan Hogan's Obituary
Rosalie Joan Hogan, 89, of Reva, VA (formally of Lusby, MD and Arlington, VA), passed away peacefully in her sleep on July 19, 2007, after a brief illness. Born February 12, 1918 in New York City, NY she was the daughter of the late John J. and Catherine Lee Bannon.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Thomas J. Hogan (USA Retired), her loving son, Tim Hogan and two very dear sisters, Claire Kraft and Mary Cullen.
While growing up, Rosalie and her sister, Mary loved to entertain by tap dancing and were fondly known as “The Dancing Bannon Sisters”. In 1941, Rosalie became a Registered Nurse after graduating from St. Catherine’s Hospital in New York City, NY. In 1945, she married Warrant Officer (USA) Thomas J. Hogan. Later in her career, her love of children led her to become the Director of the “Ft. Myer Pre-Kindergarten, in Ft. Myer, VA where she taught for over 15 years. After retirement from teaching, the school was dedicated to her and renamed “The Rosalie J. Hogan Ft. Myer Pre-Kindergarten”.
Rosalie was an avid reader, bingo player and loved to go on senior trips to the casinos and never missed a yard sale. Her love of tap dancing continued throughout her life, until the age of 84, as a member of the dancing group “The Golden Rays” in Arlington. She also loved nothing more than to spend a lazy day on her front porch reading a good book.
Rosalie never met a stranger. We will all deeply miss her infectious smile, ingenious wit, her ever present wisdom, her kindness and her generosity to her children and those she cherished in her life. She leaves behind to celebrate her love of life, a loving son, Michael P. Hogan of Fairfax, VA, and his finance, Elizabeth Belmonte, and her devoted daughter and son in law, Patty and Danny Marcey of Reva, VA, with whom she resided. She also leaves to mourn her passing a dear friend Dennis Loeffler, of Lusby, MD whom she referred to as “her adopted son”. She treasured her many wonderful friendships over the years; Beverly Terry of Bedford, VA, Dick and Mary Ann Warden of Hendersonville, NC and Helen Ingle of Lusby, MD, along with many dear “tap dancing” friends.
Rosalie is also survived by her very dear and special nephews, nieces, great-and great-great nephews and nieces, who always took the time to visit and spend time catching up on each other’s lives.
