Ronald Bernard Hutchins' Obituary
Ronald Bernard Hutchins passed away suddenly November 18, 2023 at his home in Culpeper, VA. Ron was born October 22, 1943 in New London, CT. to Stella B. and Henry T. Hutchins.
Henry Hutchins served in the US Coast Guard so the family lived for a time in Seattle, WA. His parents moved to Vienna, VA where Ron attended high school and then graduated from Lynchburg College. Ron was a beloved teacher, coach, husband, and father. He taught in Culpeper County Public Schools for 43 years. He taught at AG Richardson, Ann Wingfield, Culpeper Junior High and Culpeper Middle School. He was the first person to introduce soccer to Culpeper students. He coached the CCHS boys tennis team for 33 years. His goal as a coach was to foster a love for the sport in his team members. He played in numerous county tennis tournaments. Ron coached intramural sports at CCJHS. He was a Red Cross swimming instructor and lifeguard instructor. He managed and guarded numerous pools throughout the county.
Ron is survived by his wife of 45 years, Elizabeth Somerville Hutchins, and his two daughters, Katherine H. Ferril, and husband Toby, of Fort Worth, TX, and Rachel S. Hutchins of Fishersville, VA. He is also survived by cousins Deborah Brown Murphy of South Windsor, CT and Kim Brown of Waterford, CT. Ron is predeceased by his parents and his brother, Robert Hutchins.
A visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. on Friday, November 24, 2023 at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel, 850 Sperryville Pike, Culpeper, VA.
The funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 25, 2023 at Culpeper Baptist Church, 318 South West Street, Culpeper, VA with Pastor Brad Hales officiating. Interment will follow in the Mitchells Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Culpeper County Volunteer Rescue Squad or to clinics for youth at Battlefield Tennis, 19055 Industrial Rd., Culpeper, VA 22701.
