Ronald Eugene Giles' Obituary
On the morning of January 6, 2014, Ronald Eugene (Ronnie) Giles left his earthly home in Richardsville and was welcomed by Jesus into his heavenly home. Ronnie was born to Frank Lee and Nola Scalf Giles on March 4, 1937 in Johnson City, TN.
Ronnie’s six siblings, William Tipton, Robert H. Tipton, Paul Giles, Norma Giles Haines, Nina Giles Olmstead, and Richard J. Giles, all preceded him in death.
In 1957, Ronnie married the love of his life, Annie Allen Giles. They were blessed with 4 children, Ronald Steven Giles (wife, Patsy) of Brightwood, Teresa Giles Hurlock (husband, Tommy) of Culpeper, Kevin Eugene Giles (deceased May 2013), and Ronda Giles Clark (husband, Anthony) of Lexington. Their children blessed them with 8 grandchildren, Karen, Tabitha, Amanda, Brandon, Robbie, Megan, Eric, & Bethann, and the grandchildren blessed them with 12 great-grandchildren. Ronnie cherished all of his family and was a wonderful husband, Daddy, Granddaddy, and Pop-Pop.
During the first 23 years of his marriage, Ronnie was a commercial painter in Washington, DC. In 1980, he became a Deputy for the Culpeper County Sheriff’s Department where for 15 years, he proudly served the citizens of Culpeper. Because of his love for the people of Culpeper, in 1994, Ronnie campaigned for Sheriff. He was a member of the National Sheriff’s Association and the Virginia Sheriff’s Association. He was also a former member of the Culpeper Moose Lodge and the Richardsville Volunteer Fire Department where he severed two terms as Fire Chief.
One of Ronnie’s passions was restoring antique vehicles. He would spend hours working on what appeared to be junk and transform it into a functioning vehicle. He also enjoyed riding his 1976 Harley Davidson Electroglide motorcycle.
Ronnie accepted the Lord, Jesus Christ as his personal Savior at the age of 70. He regularly attended Oakland Baptist Church in Richardsville. He loved the Lord and enjoyed his daily Bible study at home with Ann every morning.
Ronnie was a “Mountain of a Man” and was loved and honored by many. He will be greatly missed but lovingly remembered.
