Roggie Lewis Hunter's Obituary
Roggie Lewis Hunter passed away unexpectedly on September 29, 2020, at his home in Spotsylvania, Virginia at the age of 71.
He was born in Lebanon, Tennessee on March 24, 1949. He spent his youth in Tennessee until he joined the United States Air Force (USAF) in 1968 and served on active duty for 20 years with overseas and stateside assignments until his retirement in 1989 as a Master Sergeant. He again chose to serve with 10 more years of civil service through the United States Department of the Army until retiring again in 2001. He was awarded the USAF Achievement Medal, AF Outstanding Unit Award w/2 Oak Leaf Clusters (OLC), AF Good Conduct Medal w/5 OLCs, National Defense Service Medal, AF Overseas Short Tour Ribbon w/1 OLC, AF Overseas Long Tour Ribbon w/3 OLCs, Longevity Service Award Ribbon w/4 OLCs, Noncommissioned Officer Professional Military Education w/1 OLC, Small Arms Marksmanship Ribbon, AF Training Ribbon, and several Civil Service Awards.
Roggie loved to feel the wind in his hair as his life was filled with many motorcycles and convertibles. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting, fishing, boating, four wheeling and snow machining. He was a lifelong member of the National Rifle Association and was a firearms and hunter safety instructor with the Tanana Valley Sportsman’s Association in Fairbanks, Alaska. He was also a member of the Fairbanks Fish & Game Board Advisory Committee.
He was preceded in death by his father, Willie Ray Hunter.
Roggie is survived by his wife of 43 years, Michelle Ann Hunter of Spotsylvania, Virginia; his son Lewis Kirk (Christina) Hunter and their four children Cheyanne, Star, Gabriel, and Cordelia of North Pole, Alaska; and by his son Skyler Clay Hunter of North Pole, Alaska. He is also survived by his mother, Willa Dean Hunter, his four younger brothers, Jimmy (Karen) Hunter, David (Caroline) Hunter, Darrell Hunter, Robin (Darla) Hunter, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Roggie will be interred at Arlington National Cemetery with full military honors at 9:00 am on Wednesday, August 10, 2022, in Arlington, Virginia. Arrangements were made by Found and Sons Funeral Chapels, Cremation Service, 10719 Courthouse Road, Fredericksburg.
