Roger Lee Parker's Obituary
It is with heavy hearts and extreme sadness that we announce the death of our beloved husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Roger Lee Parker. He died in his favorite place, his home; surrounded by family. He was 79 years old.
Roger was born on December 7, 1945, to Elmer and Virginia Parker. He attended Culpeper County High School where he met the love of his life, Kim. They married in October 1966. Roger and Kim made Culpeper their home and it is where they raised their two children, Melissa and Mark.
Roger believed it was his responsibility to provide for his family and he worked hard his entire life. While still in school, he began work in the newspaper field. First working at The Culpeper Star Exponent, later at The Fauquier Democrat, and finally at The Free Lance Star. He had an impeccable work ethic.
Roger enjoyed the simple things in life like a cookout with family, going to Nags Head, and collecting coins and newspapers. He took pride in a well-kept yard and a squeaky-clean car. Roger was an avid Washington Redskin fan all his life. He supported his team whether they were winners or not.
Roger is survived by his wife, Kim of 58 years, daughter Melissa (Gary), and grandchildren Parker and Morgan. Over the last decade of his life, he treasured every minute with his great-granddaughter, Annabelle. He is also survived by sisters, Brenda (Terry) and Sue (Bruce), as well as many nieces and nephews. Roger was preceded in death by his son, Mark, his parents, stepfather, Russell, sister, Marjorie, and brother, Frank.
Being at home with Kim was always where Roger wanted to be and with the compassionate care and support from Hospice of the Piedmont, he was able to be home. In lieu of flowers, please donate in his name to Hospice of the Piedmont.
Roger Parker had a life well-lived.
