Robert Henry Shanks, Jr.'s Obituary
Robert Henry Shanks, Jr., 80, of Reva died Monday, May 15, 2017 at Culpeper Health and Rehabilitation Center. He was born March 7, 1937 in Culpeper to the late Robert Shanks, Sr. and Pearl Johnson Shanks.
Mr. Shanks was a member of Canaan Baptist Church in Reva. He loved watching football and was a diehard Cowboys fan. He also enjoyed playing baseball and pitching horseshoes.
He is survived by his wife, Doris Washington Shanks; three children, Wayne Shanks and his wife, Carolyn of Culpeper, Carolyn Murray and her husband, Jeffrey of Columbus, GA, and Karen Ayers and her husband, Lawrence of Culpeper; four siblings, Rebecca Apperson of Reva, Mary Simpson of Newport News, VA, Josephine Carpenter and her husband, Ray of Boston, Freddie Shanks and his wife, Caroline of Reva, and Geneva Johnson of Reva; and brother-in-law, Delbert Noakes.
Additional survivors include five grandchildren, Lakeyia Clore, Tiffany Twyman, Celeste Britt, Kirsten Shanks and Jilandre Clark; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Douglas Shanks; two siblings, Mattie Noakes and Calvin Shanks; three brothers-in-law, Carroll Apperson, Charles Johnson and Robert Simpson; and one sister-in-law, Mary Shanks.
The family will receive friends on Friday, May 26, 2017 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel, 850 Sperryville Pike, Culpeper, VA.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 27, 2017 at 11 a.m. at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel.
Interment will follow in Canaan Baptist Church Cemetery with military honors provided by Culpeper VFW Post 2524.
