Robert C. Norris,Sr.'s Obituary
Robert C. Norris, Sr. 91, of Culpeper, Virginia, went to be with the Lord on Friday, June 17, 2011, surrounded by his loving family. He was born July 8, 1919 in Culpeper, VA.
Robert was lovingly called “Sug” by his grandmother. He had a heart of gold and would do anything for anybody. He will be so missed by his family. He served in the US Army for 6 years during World War II, where he met his lovely bride, Edna, in Plymouth, England. They married on January 24, 1944. He is a D-Day survivor but later was wounded after the taking of St. Lo. Robert was a lifetime member of the Culpeper V.F.W. Post 2524. He worked for the Culpeper Town Police Department. He also built and owned Culpeper Bowling Lanes. He was a very talented carpenter and was involved in the building of many structures, shopping centers and relationships locally.
He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Edna Mary Madeline Ashley Norris, who lovingly called him “Bob”, a daughter, Madeline Norris Price and her husband, Johnny of Brightwood, VA and a son, Robert C. Norris, Jr. and his wife, Judy, of Mitchells, VA, six grandchildren, JT Price and his wife, Tracy, Jennifer Price Brockman and her husband, John Robert, Victoria Norris Bassols and her husband, Joaquin, Robin Norris Smith-Velazquez, Joseph Norris, Ashleigh Norris Coffey and her husband, Matt. Additional survivors include eleven great- grandchildren, Johnny Price, III, Jake Price, Nathan Brockman, Tucker Brockman, Elizabeth Brockman, Andrew Wince, Jordan Wince, Candace Wince, Dustin Smith, Liam Smith, and Julius Velazquez, one great-great-grandchild, Carlisle Wince, and numerous nieces and nephews. He is also survived by one sister, Annie Ruth Gordon of IN.
Sug was preceded in death by his grandparents, Thomas and Nannie Manuel, who raised him, his father George Robert Norris, and his siblings, Tommy Norris, Jack Norris, Peggy Birkhead, George Norris, Pete Norris, W.K. Norris and T. Q. Norris.
The family will receive friends on Monday, June 20, 2011 from 6-8 p.m. at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel, 850 Sperryville Pike, Culpeper, Va.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, June 21 at 11 a.m. in the Found and Sons Chapel with Rev. Sandy Martin officiating.
Interment will follow at Culpeper National Cemetery with military honors provided by V.F.W. Post 2524 and American Legion Post 330.
Pallbearers will be his son, Robert Norris, Jr., his son-in-law, Johnny Price, his grandsons, JT Price and Joseph Norris, and his great-grandsons, Andrew Wince, Jordan Wince, and Johnny Price III. Honorary pallbearers will be his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Jennifer Price Brockman, Ashleigh Norris Coffey, Jake Price, Nathan Brockman, Tucker Brockman, Elizabeth Brockman, Victoria Norris Bassols, Robin Norris Smith-Velazquez, Candace Wince and Carlisle Wince.
Memorial donations may be made in his name to the Alzheimer’s Association, 1160 Pepsi Place, Suite 306, Charlottesville, VA 22901.
