Robert Lee Jenkins, Jr.'s Obituary
Robert Lee Jenkins, Jr. 86, of Culpeper passed away on Tuesday, October 8, 2013 at his residence. Robert was born October 30, 1926 in Culpeper to the late Robert Lee Jenkins, Sr. and Nellie Rosella Jenkins.
Robert served his country in the United States Army during World War II. After basic training and advanced infantry training, he was sent to Luzon in the Philippines as replacement troops in the 6th Infantry Division. After staying there for several months he was sent to Korea as occupational troops. He was overseas for 16 months where he attained the rank of Staff Sergeant. He was discharged December 30, 1946 and was in the reserve for three years. Robert returned home and worked on his farm for several years. In 1951 he started work on the Culpeper Police force. After 7 ½ years on the force he went to work for Virginia Alcohol Beverage Control Board and worked his way up to be Manager of the Culpeper store for 25 years before retiring after 32 years. Robert enjoyed fishing and hunting with his sons and grandsons and loved country music.
He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Anna Marie Painter Jenkins; four children, Robert Lee Jenkins, III, Mary Lynn Jenkins McMullen, Floyd Steven Jenkins and Gina Marie Jenkins Aylor; eight grandchildren; Robert Jenkins IV, Michael Jenkins, Chelsea Jenkins, Denny McMullen, Julie Bostic, Cody Jenkins, Brittany Jenkins and Shane Aylor; and six great grandchildren.
Additional survivors include his siblings; Charles, Lawrence, Marshall and Gene Jenkins, Frances Jenkins Cordle and Dorothy Jenkins Jones.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Brandi Donnelle Jenkins.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, October 10, 2013 from 6 to 8 pm at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel, 850 Sperryville Pike, Culpeper, VA.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, October 11, 2013 at 11 am at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel with Rev. Ludwell Brown officiating.
Interment will follow in Culpeper National Cemetery with military honors provided by Culpeper American Legion Post 330 and VFW Post 2524.
Pallbearers will be Robert Lee Jenkins, IV, Michael Davis Jenkins, Denny McMullen, Cody Jenkins, Shane Aylor and Steve Jenkins. Honorary pallbearers will be his son, Robert L. Jenkins III and sons-in-law, Dennis McMullen and Tony Aylor.
The family would like to give a special thank you to Robert’s private caregivers for all their love and compassion.
