Robert Garland James' Obituary
Robert Garland James, 76, of Amissville, Virginia, passed away on July 28, 2026.
Born in Fauquier County, Virginia, on February 13, 1950, Robert was the son of the late Robert Judson James and Elizabeth B. Goodman James.
Robert dedicated many years of service to the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT), where he worked until his retirement. While he took great pride in his career, farming was truly his life's passion. The family farm was more than a livelihood—it was his way of life. It always came first, and he devoted countless hours tending the land, caring for his farm, and preserving a legacy that meant so much to him. His strong work ethic, determination, and love for agriculture were evident to everyone who knew him.
He is survived by his loving wife, Mary "Lynn" James; his children, Stephanie Hull (John “JW”) and Jonathan Danny James (Samantha); his sisters, Emily Nicholson and Anne Blankenship; his brother, William "Bill" James (Penny); and his cherished grandchildren, Travis Wayne Staats (Samantha), Jonathan James, and Hannah James.
Robert leaves behind a legacy of hard work, dedication, and unwavering love for his family and the land he cherished. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, August 8, 2026 at 1:00 p.m. at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel, 850 Sperryville Pike, Culpeper, VA. The family will receive friends one hour prior.
Honorary pallbearers will be Travis Staats, John “JW” Hull, Joe Davis, Eddie Myers and David James.
