Robert Lee Holbert's Obituary
Robert (Bobby) Lee Holbert, 79, of Spotsylvania County, passed away on August 23, 2019 at Mary Washington Hospital of Fredericksburg, VA after a long illness.
Bobby was born in King George County to J. Thomas and Lois S. (Suffel) Holbert on September 19, 1939. He went to school at Chancellor School (which at that time was 1st – 12th grades). He married Joyce (Miller) on August 29, 1987 in Spotsylvania, VA. He worked as the Lead HVAC Maintenance man for Georgetown University in Washington, DC for 30+ years. He was a veteran which he served in the Air Force. He was a member of the Spotsylvania Eagles #4391 and was a bowler for the Eagles Lodge for many years.
Bobby was an avid fisherman who loved to spend time on the Rappahannock River with his buddies. In his early days, he loved going hunting for deer. His greatest love was listening to Bluegrass music. What made him the happiest was spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was Dale Earnhardt’s #1 fan.
Bobby was preceded in death by his father, J. Thomas Holbert; his mother, Lois Holbert; and his daughter, Tracey G. Holbert.
Bobby is survived by his wife, Joyce of 32 years; his daughter, Pennie L. Finley (Holbert); his two sons, James R. Holbert of Florida, and Kevin J. Holbert of Spotsylvania; his stepdaughters, Kimberly A. Pitts of Spotsylvania, and Theresa D. Miller of Spotsylvania; his stepson, Charles J. Miller of Spotsylvania; his sister, Lucretia Osterheld of Spotsylvania; ten grandchildren; two nieces; and one nephew.
A gathering of friends and family will begin at 3:00 p.m. Thursday, September 19, 2019 at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel, 10719 Courthouse Road in Fredericksburg, VA.
“For all of those who knew him well, he was an original and was always there when you needed him. He will truly be missed! We know his pain and suffering is now over and are sure that he is strolling through Heaven for his fishing buddies and a new favorite fishing hole.”
