Robert Parrish Green's Obituary
Chief Emeritus Robert Parrish Green, of Stafford, died Feb. 22, 2026 at his home in Falmouth. He was born on Jan. 5, 1947 in Fredericksburg to Roy Green Jr. and Alma Leake Parrish.
Robert graduated in 1965 from James Monroe High School in Fredericksburg and continued on to the University of Richmond, where he earned a double major in history and political science. He met Cathie Angle from Rochester, NY in 1966. They became a lifelong couple, never parting until 2026 when bile duct cancer took him away.
Never a quitter, Rob always followed through with the passions in his life. Starting with Cathie, he checked all the boxes that would give him the life he wanted. He became successful with Travelers Insurance Company, and ended his 47-year career as a Corporate Trainer and expert in Workers Compensation insurance.
When his two sons were born, Rob found a love for coaching soccer and coached many winning teams. His proudest accomplishment was the receipt of the Florence Helms Award for dedication and loyalty to the youth of Stafford. He served as president of the Stafford Recreational Soccer League, and later, as president of Stafford Soccer Club.
Robert is survived by a large and loving family: wife of 56 years, Cathie; son Christopher (Auckland, NZ); son Jason (Stafford); and daughter-in-law and loving caretaker Tanya (Stafford). He was extremely proud of his five grandchildren: Kade, Thea, and Iko of New Zealand, and Kian and Beckett of Stafford. He also leaves behind his four brothers: Charles (NC), Keith (Fred.), Brian and Mark (Spotsy.), many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In fitting fashion, Rob spent most of his life researching and reclaiming his heritage as Native American. He, with a partnership of dedicated Patawomeck descendants, spearheaded the Patawomeck Indians of Virginia's quest for State Recognition. He served as Chief for 15 years until his retirement in 2012.
Rob spent his life in a search for excellence in himself and pride of excellence in others, especially his beloved sons.
A Celebration of Life will be held from 2:00-5:00 p.m. Saturday, May 2, 2026 at Bethel Baptist Church, 1193 White Oak Road, Fredericksburg, VA 22405. Children are welcome. Please join us.
In remembrance of Rob’s life and passion, the family asks that any charitable donations be made to: Patawomeck Tribe of Virginia, C/O Jane Reeve, 638 Kings Hwy, Fredericksburg, VA 22405.
