Bob was one of those special, wonderful people that we wish the world had more of. I had the privilege of working with Bob at Fredericksburg's public works department where his skills, his knowledge, and his leadership, combined with his kindness, helpfulness, and compassion earned him the respect of his fellow staff members as well as the Fredericksburg community that he served. He especially shined during emergencies and disaster events like snow storms, wind storms, water main breaks, sewer backups, etc. where he calmly and expertly led his response crews. I recall a particular strong thunderstorm ( I think it was July 2010) that felled many trees all over the City, where Bob worked continuously from Friday through Sunday to help clear trees from City streets. We were both exhausted, but Bob always kept his spirits up. He was always there to lend a hand to anyone who was in need of help, and I enjoyed his sense of humor and his smile that would often help me through a difficult situation. He never sought the limelight and rarely complained about anything, but he had a warm heart and he truly cared about the well-being of others. I feel so lucky to have had the opportunity to work with Bob (I wish it could have been longer) and my heart and prayers of comfort go out to his entire family and all his friends. Rest in Peace in Heaven Bob.
