Robert Lee Cooke's Obituary
Robert Lee Cooke, 76, of Culpeper, Virginia, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 8, 2024, at his home in Remington, Virginia. Robert was born on March 17, 1948, in Viewtown, Virginia, to the late Raymond and Vivian Cooke.
He was an avid craftsman who was known to many as the ultimate problem-solver and master-fixer for any project. Robert served his country in the United States Army for nearly two years before being honorably discharged in 1970. He retired from the United States Postal Service as the Remington Postmaster after 40 years of dedicated service.
Robert is survived by his beloved partner, Gale Smith, and his cherished family who knew him as our Bob, including Lisa Butler (Chris); Mary Hampton (Dan); Gunnar and Grady Hampton; Brandon Hunt (Shelby); Susan Berry (Roger); Hunter and Julianne Berry; his four-legged companion, Greyson Berry; his sister, Elizabeth (Buck) Newcomer; his niece, Darlene Blittinger; his great-niece and great-nephew, Ashley and Tony Blittinger; his niece, Sabrina Gadwaw; his nephew, Hushel Junior (Mary); great-nephews, Kevin and Kory Settle; his niece, Joyce Ann Compton (Billy); his sister, Dorothy Davis; his nephew and niece, William Billy and Deborah Kitten Davis; his great-niece Jessica Hawkins (Jacob); his great, great-nephew, River Hawkins; his great nephew, Allen Dudley; his cousin, Doris Jenkins; his life-long friend, Carrie Harris; and his many extended relatives.
In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by his late wife, Mary Sue Cooke; his brother, Eugene Cooke; and his sister, Joyce Settle.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Remington Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department, 200 East Marshall Street, Remington, VA 22734.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 14, 2024 at Culpeper National Cemetery, 501 E. Chandler Street, Culpeper, VA with Pastor Justin Bettis officiating. Pallbearers will be Chris Butler, Roger Berry, Brandon Hunt, Hunter Berry, Allen Dudley, and Kory Settle. Military honors will be provided by VFW Post 2524 Honor Guard.
