Richard C. Dennis' Obituary
Richard C. “Dickie” Dennis, 71, of Culpeper died Sunday, May 3, 2009 at his residence. He was born November 11, 1937 in Rappahannock County to the late William Benton and Alice Viola Zombro Dennis.
Mr. Dennis served his country in the United States Army from 1956 to 1959 and later retired from Dulles Airport as a Master Electrician. He was a member of Oak Shade United Methodist Church as well as the Remington Lions Club. He was an avid musician performing in the groups Hazel River Trio, Midnight Cowboys and also performed with Buck Owens, Patsy Kline and George Jones. Aside from his true passion of playing music, he enjoyed playing golf.
He is survived by his wife, Patsy Woodward Dennis, two children, Stephanie Dennis –Bowers and Richard C. “Ric” Dennis, II, one grandson, Richard L. Bowers, III and his wife, Heather, two great grandchildren, Emma Leah Walder and Joseph Galen Bowers, and three sisters, Lolita Henderson, Colleen Lewis and Joy Scott.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Gloria O’Steen and Ruth Beddingfield and three brothers, William B. Dennis, Jr., Thomas J. Dennis, and Warren E. Dennis.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, May 6, 2009 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel, 850 Sperryville Pike, Culpeper, VA.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, May 7, 2009 at 1 p.m. at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel with Rev. Sharon Forbes and Rev. Barbara Jamieson officiating.
Interment will follow in Culpeper National Cemetery with military honors provided by Culpeper American Legion Post #330 and V.F.W. Post #2524.
