Richard G. Thornhill,60 of Tipton died Friday at Presbyterian Hospital, Charlotte, NC.
Richard was born in Warrenton Co., Va. son of Jane (Butler) Thornhill and the late William E.Thornhill.
He was married to Karen S. Rife on September 10, 1977 in Grundy, Va. at Grundy Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Karen, of Tipton; two daughters: Ashleigh Levesque of Charlotte, NC and Amanda Thornhill of Arlington, Va; a granddaughter: Graceyn Marie Levesque; his mother of Culpeper, Va.; and a brother; Jerry of Culpeper, Va.
Richard was preceded in death by a sister: Valerie Thornhill Clore.
He was a graduate of Culpeper High School, Culpeper, Va. and Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, Blacksburg,Va.
Richard was employed in the mining industry for over 30 years serving as the Vice President of Operations for K&J Coal for over 17 years, and most recently as the Preparation Superintendent of AMFIRE Mining Co. LLC, Clymer, Pa.
He was a past member of the Bellwood-Antis School Board.
Richard was a member of The Gospel Chapel, Woodland, Pa.
He was an avid outdoorsman that enjoyed hunting and fishing as well as a sports enthusiast participating in several basketball leagues into his fifties.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday, October 24, 2011 at Jon C. Russin Funeral Home, Bellwood, Pa. Friends will be received Tuesday, October 25, 2011 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Found & Sons Funeral Home, 850 Sperryville Pike, Culpeper, Va. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, October 26, 2011 at Mount Lebanon Baptist Church, 19 Scrabble Rd., Boston, Va. with Pastor W. Lee Casher from The Gospel Chapel, Woodland, Pa officiating. Friends will be received following the funeral service.
Committal service and entombment will be at Greenhills Memory Garden, Cedar Bluff, Va. at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, October 27, 2011.
