Richard Edwin Sidle's Obituary
Richard E. Sidle, 83, of Culpeper, Va. passed away May 9, 2016 at UVA Hospital in Charlottesville, Va.
He was born in Hackensack, NJ on October 4th, 1932. Later, the family moved to Pine Mill, PA. He graduated from Hancock High School in Hancock, NY in 1950.
He is survived by Marylyn Hunt Sidle, his wife of 62 years; three sons; Jeffrey (Roberta) of Hawley, PA; Gregory (Joan) of Spotsylvania, VA; and Stephen of Locust Grove, VA, Four grandchildren; Lillie, Luke, Michael and Morgan. He was preceded in death by his brother Leonard B. Sidle.
Richard enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1953 and retired in 1973 as a Master Chief Machinist Mate in the Submarine Service. In 1973 he went on to work for Dominion Power as a Mechanical Supervisor and retired again in 1987.
In their retirement Richard and Marylyn spent nearly every summer at the cottage they built on Tripp Lake in Poland, Maine with the help of his father and their three teenage sons. Their sons eventually brought their families to Maine to enjoy their vacations on the lake with their grandparents.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, May 23, 2016 at 1 p.m. at Found & Sons Funeral Chapel, 850 Sperryville Pike, Culpeper, VA.
Inurnment will follow at Culpeper National Cemetery with military honors provided by Culpeper VFW Post 2524.
In lieu of flowers, Richard requested honorary donations to charities associated with the Armed Forces.
