Richard K. Shrout's Obituary
SHROUT, Richard K. of Arlington, VA passed away December 28, 2019 after losing his battle with cancer. Born May 7, 1960 in Frankfurt, Germany, Richard was the son of the late Col. Roy B., Jr. and Renva M. Shrout.
Richard lived in several countries and states before finally settling in Northern VA. He received his bachelor's degree from West Virginia University and worked for the US Treasury, Federal Home Loan Mortgage Corporation, Primark and, most recently, the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association. Richard was active in Toastmasters and achieved the Distinguished Toastmaster Award (DTM) in 2011. He served as a Mason in the Alexandria – Washington Lodge for more than 17 years, enjoyed travel, square dancing and spending time with family and friends.
Richard is survived by his three siblings Roy Shrout and wife Cyndi, Sherry Norton and husband Steve, and Marilyn Gilligan, as well as his nieces and nephew (fondly referred to as his niblings): Stephanie Wehrmann and husband Josh, Alex Norton, Casey Gilligan and Caitlin Gilligan. He was also a favorite with his Wehrmann great-nieces and nephew: Savannah, Isabella, Zane and Cheyenne; as well as his Uncle Barry and Aunt Nancy Shrout, and cousins Cathy, Bobby and Becky.
Richard will always be remembered for his love of family, and being a great friend and mentor.
Richard was laid to rest in the Fairview Cemetery located in Culpeper, Virginia.
