Richard Sapp's Obituary
Richard D. Sapp, 89, of Spotsylvania, left this Earth on Friday, January 25, 2019, to be with our Lord Jesus.
Born in West Virginia, Dick moved to Washington D.C. in 1939. He graduated high school in 1947 and soon after enlisted in the United States Air Force. According to Dick, he then “helped President Truman clean up his police action in Korea.” He returned to the United States in April 1952, to a city he always loved, Fort Worth, Texas. Later, he found himself back in Washington, D.C., and retired from the United States Navy Department in December 1989.
Dick was a proud 32nd degree mason.
His last words of wisdom to us all were: “That’s it, folks, and I’ll leave you with this which I have learned over these many decades —- No matter who, sickness, health, circumstances or other nonsense —- Always keep a good thought. You’ll come out ahead feeling better when it’s over than most others involved. Bye!”
Dick is survived by his nephew, Raymond Wright, and his wife, Vivian, his niece, Patricia Nalley, and her husband, Randy, and two great-nephews, Seth and John Nalley.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Thelma.
Dick’s family will receive friends from 10 am to 12 noon on Saturday, February 2, 2019 at Found and Sons Funeral Chapels, 10719 Courthouse Rd, Fredericksburg. He will be laid to rest with his wife in a private ceremony at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in his honor to the St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, stjude.org/donate.
