Richard Edward Powell's Obituary
Richard Edward Powell, 81, of Culpeper, VA died Saturday, August 7, 2021 at INOVA Fairfax Medical Campus. He was born March 7, 1940 in Albertville, AL to the late Herbert and Mildred Powell.
Richard spent the majority of his adult life serving in the US Navy in far off locales as Japan and Gibraltar. He was an avid fan of the Alabama Crimson Tide ‘Roll Tide’. Richard could always be found near a tv on college game day. He was Papa Powell and Grandpa Powell to his grandkids and would always lend a compassionate ear and a generous heart to those in his family circle. Husband, Dad, Grand Dad to us all; he will be missed. We love you!!
Richard is survived by his wife of 60 years, Amanda Powell, three children ; Paulette Jarrell (John), Richard Powell (Cathy), and Sonya Powell (Michael Devine), siblings; Carlton Powell, Floyd Powell, Roger Powell, and Pat Popwell. He is also survived by his grandchildren Mathew Jarrell (Julia), Kristen Jarrell (Charles Hirsch), Melissa Jarrell, Joseph Powell, Joshua Powell, Jackson Devine, and Christopher Devine, great grandchildren; Emerson Jarrell, Lucy Jarrell, Raedyn Powell, Djace Powell, and Ezryn Powell.
In addition to his parents, Richard is preceded in death by his siblings; Jack Powell, Danny Powell, Judy Powell, Edna Merle Powell, and Imogene Powell.
A funeral service will be held Monday, August 16, 2021 at 1:00 pm at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel, 850 Sperryville Pike, Culpeper, VA 22701 with Father Kevin Walsh officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Richard’s name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
Interment will follow at Culpeper National Cemetery, 501 E. Chandler Street, Culpeper, VA with VFW Post 2524 providing military honors.
