Richard L. "Ricky" Martin's Obituary
On November 13, 2018, truck driver Ricky Martin was dispatched out on one final run, home to the gates of Heaven. Ricky was the victim of an unfortunate vehicle accident involving a deer.
Ricky was known throughout the community as Santa Claus, as every December he enjoyed the role and seeing the smiles it brought to the faces of the children he encountered. He was the ultimate workhorse, being employed by Harris Teeter as a truck driver. He had previously worked at Embassy Dairy, McLane Distribution, Penske Logistics, Anderson Trucking and had a stint with his own company, RL Martin Trucking. He was also a 15 year past member of the Spotsylvania Volunteer Fire Department, Co. 2.
Ricky leaves behind his beloved wife of 45 years, Donna Trainharn Martin; sons, Chad R. Martin (Sherry), and Shane M. Martin; granddaughter, Taylor A. Martin; sister, Delores Martin-Lam; honorary sons, Jeromie Garland (Kelly), Zach, Kelsie, and Lee McLain.
Ricky was preceded in death by his parents; Herndon and Earlis Martin; nephew, Jeffrey Martin; and grandson, Chad R. Martin Jr.
Devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend, Ricky Martin, you will be greatly missed by everyone you encountered in your life. You just didn’t know how much you were and are cherished. Until we meet again in Heaven, you are in our hearts and minds. Drive on, trucker … to a better place.
Ricky, as modest as he was about life, requested to not have a funeral or memorial gathering.
