Richard Eugene Dudley's Obituary
Richard Eugene Dudley, 73, of Woodbridge, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, on Monday, September 30, 2013, after a long struggle with the disease multiple system atrophy. He was born in Hershey, Pennsylvania on November 29, 1939.
Richard graduated from George Washington University in 1973 with his Bachelor’s Degree and graduated from the Catholic University in 1976 with his Masters in Education.
He retired from the U.S. Customs Service, Office of International Affairs in 1997, after working there for 34 years.
Richard was also known as the “Lamp Doctor”, for 35 years, because of his expertise in restoring antique lighting.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Barbara Staples Dudley; one son, Alan Eugene Dudley and his girlfriend, Fabiola Mariscal; three sisters, Connie Dudley Kunkle and her husband, Bob, Kathy Dudley Bradley and her husband, Ralph, and Carol Dudley Aukamp and her husband, Joe; and many nieces and nephews.
Richard is preceded in death by his mother and father, Ruth Kline Dudley and Frederick William Dudley.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 9, 2013 at Riverview Baptist Church. Richard’s family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Quantico National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, Richard’s family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Riverview Baptist Church, 1722 Florida Avenue, Woodbridge, VA 22191 or to the MSA Coalition, 8311 Brier Creek Parkway, Suite 105-434, Raleigh, NC 27617.
