Richard "Dick" Ramon Powell's Obituary
Richard “Dick” Ramon Powell, 85, of Culpeper, Virginia, previously of Alexandria, Virginia, passed away at his home on Wednesday, January 27, 2021. He is survived by his companion of 45 years, Sonia Kay Mills, his daughter, Deborah A. Powell of Falls Church, VA, his daughter Cristine Powell Homburg (Chris) of Frederick, MD, and his son, Mark D. Powell (Meredith), of Annapolis, MD, four grandchildren, Kyle Homburg, Danielle Homburg, Caitlin Powell, Olivia Powell, and great-granddaughter, Salem Homburg.
Dick was born in Los Angeles, California and later lived in Eugene, Oregon. He served in the United States Army (1954-1962) as a Sergeant in the Korean War. He worked as a Salesman in the glass and aluminum business for 60 years, a career that took him from California, to Madison, Wisconsin, to Kansas City, Missouri and to Gaithersburg, Maryland. He later moved to Alexandria, Virginia where he lived and retired from Woodbridge Glass at the age of 84. He loved his work.
Dick had a beautiful spark in his eye and was Mr. Personality. He was the life of every gathering, always had a smile on his face, enjoyed talking to people, and was the best story and joke teller. He loved to make people smile. He had a way of remembering everyone’s name that he came in contact with, and was an educator to others. Dick was a huge fan of cars, cooking, fine dining, golf, hunting and watching sports. He loved the Washington Nationals and his hometown LA Dodgers. He was a big Redskins fan regardless of their record. He loved the beach and the mountains and enjoyed nothing more than gathering with family, friends and neighbors to share good company and a laugh.
Memorial contributions can be made in his name to the American Cancer Society and/or Hospice of the Piedmont in Culpeper, VA.
Graveside services will be held at Culpeper National Cemetery on February 4, 2021 at 12 pm with military honors provided by VFW Post 2524. Rev. Charles McRaven will be officiating.
