Please accept my condolences. I relieved Dick as commanding officer of USS John Paul Jones in December 1972 at the Long Beach, California Naval Station. Although we only met for a short time, before the change of command, I was impressed by his pride in the ship and in his crew. My wife Joanne and I send our deepest condolences on Dick's passing. We worked with him for over 20 years as Nicolo Whimsey. He hired us for many events, and we always had an excellent relationship. Dick was funny and fair and very professional, and he made the world a better place. We never had a single miscommunication or issue in all the years we worked together, and I attribute that to what a pro he was.
And he always had a sly joke up his sleeve. Joanne and I really enjoyed being friends and colleagues with Dick for so many years and we have nothing but very fond memories of him. We send our deepest sympathies,

Mary Ann: It's been so long since my first arrival in Washington and our first meeting with you and Dick back in the days when he and I worked in "the annex". Christian The Magician was one of the first people who gave me "gigs" as "Babes The Clown". He was always an inspiration to me as a "learning clown"....giving me encouragement an advice. He was a fair employer for me and always gave me the benefit of the doubt when someone had an issue with my clowning....which, luckily, only happened once in a while.
