Richard Bailey, Jr.'s Obituary
Richard Bailey, Jr. was born August 10, 1950 in Ypsilanti, Michigan to the late Vondell and Richard Bailey, Sr. He departed this life on Friday, June 28, 2024 in Jeffersonton, Virginia. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Mike and Ronald Bailey. Richard leaves to cherish his memories his wife, Margaret; daughter, Lisa, and her husband, Eddie; daughter, Vondell and her husband, Mark; son, Richard, III, and wife, Denise; six grandchildren, Todd, Sylvia, Lalani, Ravyn, Richard, IV, and Ethan; sister, Charlene; brother, Steve; and a blessed number of family members and friends.
From an early age, Richard's passion for sports was evident. Baseball captivated him throughout his school years, making him an avid player. His talent on the field earned him a scholarship to Central Michigan University (CMU). After a year at CMU, Richard served his country with one tour of duty in Vietnam with the army branch of the military. Upon returning from Vietnam, he pursued an education at RET's Electronic School and later went on to work at a few companies, before landing at Alfred Teves Inc. in Culpeper, Virginia, where he met and married the first love of his life, Margaret. After a couple of years living in Culpeper, he moved to South Carolina for a position as a Logistics Manager at Michelin Tire Corp. He remained with the company, relocating a few times before landing in Louisville, KY until his retirement.
Richard embraced Christianity under the devoted guidance of his mother and grandparents, who were both ministers. He was a man of God and later became a steadfast leader of Christ in his family. He attended Watson Memorial Baptist Church in Louisville, KY.
After sustaining a leg injury while playing baseball in college, Richard redirected his passion from playing baseball to golf (the second love of his life). When not actively playing, he dedicated himself to practicing, reading about the game and the great players before him, and attending as many PGA events as possible. He enjoyed playing with his father, Richard, Sr., and his son, Richard, III; as well as teaching Richard, IV, and his other grandsons and great-grandsons the game. His legacy will live on through his grandson's and great-grandson’s love for the game.
A special thank you to everyone who has provided their prayers, emotional and practical support for us during this most difficult time.
