Rev. Patricia W. Olson's Obituary
Rev. Patricia W. Olson, 73, of Springfield, VA departed this life on Tuesday, August 14, 2007. She was born October 11, 1933 to the late Glenn Whipple and Leone Cook Whipple.
She was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and grew up in Houston, Kerrville and Corpus Christi, Texas. She met Oscar Olson at Methodist Youth Fellowship. She graduated from the University of Houston with a Radio/TV degree.
Engaged to Oscar, she traveled for the wedding to where Uncle Sam’s army assigned him, Bremerhaven Germany. His Foreign Service career took them to Latin America, Spain, and West Berlin, joined by a son and two daughters.
Her activities included lay ministry on three continents, her show on Armed Forces TV in Berlin, and a stint as Embassy Community Liaison Officer in Quito, Ecuador. After his retirement from the Foreign Service, she entered Wesley Theological Seminary and was ordained a United Methodist minister. Her pastoral appointments were at Hopewell and Richardsville United Methodist Churches in Culpeper County, Trinity and Mt. Horeb United Methodist Churches in Fauquier Counties, and Springfield United Methodist Church. Since retirement, she remained active preaching, teaching, leading retreats, and serving as chaplain at Fairfax Hospital.
She is survived by her husband, Oscar Olson of 51 years, her son, Michael Olson of Amsterdam, The Netherlands, two daughters, Kirsten Pruski of Dallas, Texas, Kathleen Olson of Allentown, Pennsylvania, four grandchildren, Sarah Pruski, Audrey Pruski, Paul Pruski, and Daniel Pruski.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, August 20, 2007 at 11 a.m. at Messiah United Methodist Church, 6215 Rolling Rd., Springfield, VA.
A service of remembrance will be held at 4 p.m. at Hopewell United Methodist Church, Lignum., VA. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
