Reed Alexander Kai Kaucher's Obituary
Reed Alexander Kai Kaucher, 21 of Fredericksburg, Virginia passed away on Monday 18 May 2015. Reed was born in Honolulu, Hawaii on 11 March 1994 to Stacy D. Kaucher and Jeri Reed Kaucher. He is survived by his two younger brothers Hunter Kyle Joshua Kaucher, 19 (USMC) & Grant Andrew Joshua Kaucher, 17.
Reed's father was a U.S. Marine and the family moved often and lived in many places. Reed's life chartered a new course when his father accepted a position to teach at the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland. This is where Reed discovered his lifelong passion, the game of lacrosse.
When our next move took us to Fredericksburg, Virginia, Reed brought lacrosse with him. Reed was blessed with great coaches, men whom Reed wanted to emulate when he began to coach. At 15, Reed became a lacrosse referee. If it involved lacrosse - Reed was there. This also was the beginning of his high school lacrosse career. Reed was determined to set goals, break records, and be a team leader. Read achieved all of it. In 2012 these efforts culminated in his selection as a U.S. Lacrosse High School All-American. When Reed received these honors, and there were many others, we were awe-inspired by how humble he was in the face of success. Reed played one year of college lacrosse at Essex College in Baltimore, MD, where they were regional champs that season. A broken thumb and surrounding damage ended Reeds chances to play at the college level again.
Reed had a passion for healthy cooking and a new goal to attend Culinary School. Reed also loved to spend his free time with his two brothers, his lax bros, and his CrossFit family. Reed's kindness showed through in many ways: he rescued animals, encouraged others to achieve their personal best, and always spoke well of others.
Reed was a gentle soul who empathized with others. He used humor & encouragement to lift spirits. It has been a beautiful blessing to read messages left for Reed on his Facebook page. They tell the story of a kind, loving & inspirational young man in the world. He lived with a giving & open heart, and to those who loved & protected him, we thank you.
We have been supported by so many during this challenging time but the compassion and care we received at Found and Sons Funeral Home from Julie & Scott Found made a difficult journey possible. In lieu of flowers, we request donations be made to "Reed's GOAL" (Gift of Affordable Lacrosse.) Checks can be mailed to 11 Kenwood Court, Fredericksburg, VA 22405. Online donations on the Facebook page of Jeri Kaucher.
Please go to Facebook & like his page at Reed Kaucher. There are memorial lacrosse tournaments being set up, scholarships being established, & ideas collected in an effort to continue the legacy of Reed's lacrosse and kindness. Most of all we ask that from this day forward that our son's passing reminds people to put family first, to live with more kindness & tolerance, and to always set goals and then live with passionate commitment to achieving them.
Online condolences may be expressed to the family at foundandsons.com.
