Previous to moving to Texas Becky was a long time resident of Sperryville Virginia. She lived with her mother and assisted in her care to her death. After her mother's death she rented a cottage from the late Pete and Betty Estes at Sperryville Pike where she resided until 2 strokes disabled her from living independently. Rebecca then lived with and was lovingly cared for by her granddaughter Joyce Steward and her family in their home in Washington Virginia for 1 year. That year gave her the opportunity to spend quality time with Zachary and Brealyn Steward of which both she babysat until her strokes. After the year she moved to Houston Texas where her daughter lovingly cared for her for 7 years to her death. To be a Virginia country girl she grew to love her home at Pebble Beach Drive, Houston. She also enjoyed visiting her son-in law Richard Brown's ranch in George West Texas which is where she first ride on a Polaris. After a few years she started eating like a Texan with good old mexican food and lots of jalapeno's. Rebecca loved to sit at her big bay window of her bedroom and watch the birds and squirrels play and feed, the beautiful flowers bloom and the butterflies and hummingbirds fly so gracefully by. The last 4 years Becky always looked forward to her daughter Nancy Fitchett coming out for two weeks 5 times a year to assist in taking care of her. Before flying to Texas she had never traveled by airplane however after the first flight she flew every year to Virginia for the Christmas holidays with her family. She loved this time of the year not just for the decorations but the family time. That was her big highlight of each year she lived in Texas, was to fly on an airplane and spending time with the family. Christmas Eve was always spent with her brother William (Billy Motten) and family then back to Joyce's and family for the oyster fry with everyone including Roger Menefee Joyce's dad. Early morning Christmas Day was to watch the great grandchildren Zachary and Brealyn check out under the tree what Santa had left for them, celebrate Jesus's birth, waiting for Nancy to arrive so she could spend time telling us how to cook Christmas dinner. Christmas time was a very special time to our family for we laughed, cooked, opened gifts, celebrated, and ate a great big feast. After such a big day relax was all we had the energy to do. She enjoyed worshipping in the Church at Waterlick in Strasburg, VA and Springswood United Methodist Church in Houston, TX.
Her health issues multiplied over the seven years which is another reason she wanted to continue to live in Houston. Her daughter searched till she could find some of the finest in the medical field to help her mother's health issues. Through a friendship with Dr. Nguyen Phan 5 years ago her daughter was successful. Becky loved all of her doctors and healthcare providers of which she was blessed to have some of the best. Dr. Nguyen Phan Internal Medicine and Primary Care, Dr. Arsalan Shahzad Heart Specialist, Dr. Zehra Kapadia Oncologist, Dr. Mustansir Vejlani Pulmonary Specialist. She had tremendous in-home support through Select Home Care and fantastic rehabilitation through the staff and facility of Health South The Woodlands. Her final weeks were made so much more comfortable, peaceful and loving through the staff of team 506 VITAS Hospice.
Her smile brightened many lives, her gentle caring nature touched many people leaving behind her legacy of love. The family and friends that remain will miss her here on earth but look forward to seeing her again.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 4, 2015 at 2 pm at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel, 850 Sperryville Pike, Culpeper, VA. A one hour visitation will be held prior to the service.
Interment will follow in Flint Hill Cemetery.
