Reagan Elizabeth Flemming's Obituary
Fortified by the sacraments of her faith, Reagan Elizabeth Flemming passed peacefully into the loving arms of Jesus as her parents sang to her the Divine Mercy chaplet at her bedside. At the very same time, on Friday, March 27, 2015, her loving fellow parishioners of Precious Blood Catholic Church were also singing the chaplet led by her siblings. Reagan was eighteen-years-old.
Reagan was born on November 13, 1996 in Manassas, VA. She entered this world as a fighter and spent the first three weeks of her life in the NICU revealing to us her amazingly tenacious spirit. Reagan is preceded in death by her Grandfather, Matthew David Kidd, and her Great-Grandparents: Inez T. and Oscar B. Kidd, Albert Latusek and Charles E. Tye. Reagan is survived by her parents, John and Mary (Kidd) Flemming and her five siblings: John Matthew Flemming, Justin Patrick Flemming, Jacob Kolbe Flemming, Ryleigh Elizabeth Flemming and Jack Killian Flemming. She is also survived by her Grandparents: Jack and Pat Flemming of Manassas, VA and Linda and Tom Bowles of Chesapeake, VA; her Great-Grandmothers: Hilda Latusek and Mary Tye; her Aunts and Uncles: Cheri and Chris Shoemaker, Amy and Donnie Parker, Chrissy and Chris Nagro, Eric T. Bowles, Cherie Bowles, Larry and Meagan Bowles; her cousins: Chandler Parker, Benjamin and Olivia Nagro, Bailey and Aidan Bowles. Reagan cherished her many great aunts and uncles and beloved second and third cousins.
Reagan fiercely battled Ewing Sarcoma bone cancer after being diagnosed on July 8, 2008 at the age of eleven. After multiple surgeries, chemotherapies and radiation treatments, she was blessed to be a part of an experimental drug trial at the National Institute of Health. This trial gave her three years of remission and gained valuable insight into the treatment of Ewing’s for future pediatric patients. Reagan was dedicated to childhood cancer awareness and promoting the need for childhood specific cancer research. She raised thousands of dollars and purchased toys, blankets, candy and books which she gave to hospitalized children. She also donated gas cards, grocery cards and checks to families touched by cancer.
Reagan was a senior at Eastern View High School where she was President of the Relay for Life Team, a member of the choir and drama departments and the National Honor Society. Many have remarked that Reagan had the voice of an angel. She was selected for ACDA Honor choirs and in several musicals. Reagan was recently accepted to George Mason University where she planned to study psychology.
Reagan was an active member of Precious Blood Catholic Church and RADIX Youth Ministry of Precious Blood. She sang in the Heritage choir at her church and often was a cantor at masses. Reagan loved working with the little ones at Vacation Bible School. She had a living faith that permeated every area of her life. Reagan trusted completely in God’s will for her life, taking up her cross daily to follow Him. People often marveled at her faith, strength and perseverance.
Reagan was beloved by her family and friends. Her joyful, fun-loving and often crazy antics were a bright spot in our lives. Her amazing sense of humor kept us all in stitches even until the last week of her life. She was quick to put others first, often saving her birthday money to buy Christmas presents for her siblings. Reagan was a true blessing to everyone she met. She was an advocate for the underdog, had great compassion for those with disabilities and loved every baby and little child she ever met.
Reagan dreamed of one day adopting children of all races with special needs and doing mission work. She accomplished more in her eighteen years than most people do in a lifetime and in her humility, she never truly realized how many lives she touched.
