Raymond Red Elwood Hitt, Jr.'s Obituary
Raymond “Red” Elwood Hitt, Jr., 75, of Castleton died Monday, October 30, 2006 at Winchester Medical Center. He was born June 6, 1931 in Fauquier, VA to the late Raymond Edward Hitt, Sr. and Mary Weaver Hitt.
Red served his country in the United States Army and fought in the Korean War for five years. He was a member of the American Legion and VFW in both Culpeper and Warrenton. He was Papa to his precious grandchildren who he cared for greatly.
He is survived by his loving wife of over fifty years, Aloha Lee Deal Hitt of Castleton, his two sons, Roger Lee Hitt and his companion, Christine Compton of Front Royal, and Mark Alan Hitt of Rixeyville, and his three grandchildren, Kendra Marie Frazier and her husband, Chad of Luray, Corey Alan Hitt of Castleton, and Haley Nicole Dover of Culpeper.
Additional survivors include his brothers, Robert Hitt of Henderson, Kentucky, William Hitt and his wife, Shirley of Florida, Allen Hitt and his wife, Darlene of Delaware, his sisters, Eleanor Schrader and her family of California, Sarah Heitz and her husband, John of Delaware, and many nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind many cherished friends and his life long close friend, Bill “Gerald” Settle.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepmother, Viola Bailey Hitt, his beloved son, Christopher Thomas Hitt who went on to be with the Lord in 1999, his daughter-in-law, Claudia Fischer Hitt, and his sister-in-law, Pearl Hitt.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, November 2, 2006 from 7 to 9 p.m. at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel, 850 Sperryville Pike, Culpeper, VA 22701.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, November 3, 2006 at 2 p.m. at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel with Rev. Jim Pittman and Rev. Rick Love officiating.
Interment will follow in Forest Grove Cemetery in Viewtown.
Pallbearers will be John Settle, Corey Hitt, Stephen Settle, Chad Frazier, Robert Settle, Billy Singleton, Mel Compton, and Tim O’Roark with honorary pallbearers being Bob Hitt and Bill “Gerald” Settle.
In lieu of flowers, donatations may be made in his name to Gourdvine Baptist Church, 7103 Eggbornsville Rd., Rixeyville VA 22737 &/or Amissville Full Gospel Church, 675 Viewtown Rd., Amissville VA, 20106 or a Volunteer Fire Department of your choice.
