Ray Allen Whetzel's Obituary
Ray Allen Whetzel, loving husband, wonderful father and grandfather, kind friend, age 82 went home to be with his heavenly Father on Sunday, January 20, 2019 at the University of Virginia Medical Center surrounded by his family and friends. Ray was born on April 3, 1936 in Criders, VA. He was preceded in death by his parents Ervin and Ida Whetzel of Criders, VA, sister Mary Whetzel, of Criders, VA, and wife of 62 years Betty Bryson Whetzel of Culpeper, VA.
Ray was an active member of the New Salem Baptist Church, and a member of the Southern Fauquier Hunt Club. Ray began his career at a very young age working on nearby farms. From there he was a mechanic at Culpeper County School Bus Shop, then Clore Pontiac, and spent most of his mechanic career at Jim McKay Chevrolet, Fairfax, VA from where he retired after 34 years.
He is survived by three children, Diane W. Lischke and her husband, Jim of Winter Haven, FL, Jeffrey A. Whetzel and his wife, Loretta of Criders, VA, and Timothy R. Whetzel and his wife, Denise of Lignum; one sister, Jean E. Ritchie of Broadway, VA; and one brother, Floyd Whetzel and his wife, Jenny of Leon, VA.
Additional survivors include seven grandchildren, Jennifer L. Fincham and her husband, Tony of Culpeper, Rachel Nauman and her husband, Matt of Crozet, Angela Green and her husband, Matt of Palmyra, Joselyn Whetzel of Richmond, Laura Whetzel of Culpeper, Timothy Ray Whetzel, Jr. of Culpeper, and Sylvia Whetzel of Culpeper; and ten great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, January 24, 2019 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel, 850 Sperryville Pike, Culpeper, VA.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, January 25, 2019 at 11 a.m. at New Salem Baptist Church, 8233 Sperryville Pike, Culpeper, VA with Rev. Mike Dodson officiating.
Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery.
