Ramona Monica Wire Riddell's Obituary
On Monday, July 2, 2012, Ramona Monica Wire Riddell died at the St. Mary's Hospital in Richmond, VA. She was born August 30, 1940 in Washington D.C. to Mr. and Mrs. C. Raymond and Minnie-Lee Wire of Chevy Chase, Maryland. Mrs. Riddell was the granddaughter of Congressman Guinn Williams from Wise County, TX and niece to Guinn "Big Boy" Williams, Hollywood actor of the early western movies. Her grandfather, Charles E. Wire was a prominent grassroots builder of prestigious homes and churches in The District.
Mrs. Riddell attended Holton Arms School and in 1962 received a Bachelor of Arts Degree - Art History from Mt. Holyoke College, South Hadley, MA. In the course of her studies she participated in a year abroad exchange student program with the University of Madrid. Her passions included raising her three sons, and supporting her country. She was a horticulturalist, student of literature, writer, and patron of the arts. She volunteered for NASA and worked for Wire Properties in Washington, D.C. Mrs. Riddell was the 1958 Cherry Blossum Princess of the Texas State Society. A member of the American Angus Association, she raised cattle and other livestock, conducting Viginia's first bison auction in 1995. She experienced the miracle of forgiveness of sins through the blood and sacrifice of Jesus Christ as described in John 3:16.
She is survived by her three sons, Raymond Montgomery Riddell and his wife Leslee of Aliso Viejo, CA, Richard Russell Riddell and his wife Shannon of Richmond, VA, and Wildi Wire Riddell of Martinsburg, WV. She is also survived by one granddaughter, Savannah Metcalf Riddell. She was interred July 11 at the family farm, The Shade, historical property of the Charles Green family in Woodville, VA, by family and close friends.
Memorial services and reception will be held for all family and friends 5:30pm, Thursday, August 30 at High Thicket, 367 Fletcher Mill Rd, Woodville, VA.
