Ralph Ortengren's Obituary
Ralph William Ortengren Jr., USN (Ret) 69 of Haymarket, died Thursday June 12, 2008 at Prince William Hospital.
Ralph graduated from the University of Michigan with an Engineering degree in 1960. He later received his Masters in Oceanography from Navy Post Graduate School in Monteray, California. Ralph attended jet pilot training in Pensacola Florida, and then went to Meramar for top gun training. After surviving a crash, he went on to captain several navy vessels and two destroyer escorts. He served in the U.S. Navy for over 30 years. He was an avid golfer and in his youth in Ohio, he participated in a tournament where he was beaten by Jack Nicklaus.
Survivors include his wife Jean E. Ortengren, his daughter: Sharon E. Ortengren and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Thursday, June 19, 2008 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Found and Sons Lee Funeral Chapel 8521 Sudley Road Manassas, Virginia. A funeral will be held Friday, June 20, 2008 at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment with full military honors will take place on Monday, September 15, 2008.
