Ralph Marceron
Ralph A. Marceron, former Chairman of the Stafford County, VA Board of Supervisors and a Navy Veteran of the Korean War passed peacefully on November 27, 2006 at Mary Washington Hospital. Mr. Marceron was a civil servant for 38 years and retired from the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation in February 1996.
Born in Washington D.C. he attended St. Jerome's Elementary School in Hyattsville, MD, Gonzaga High School and graduated from Northwestern High School after the family moved to Langley Park.
He served in the Navy at the Miramar Naval Air Station in San Diego, CA. After his service he attended the University of Maryland and graduated from the Business Administration College in 1962.
He coached boys' basketball and girls' softball teams for New Carrollton. He led a Boys Club chapter and coached for the Fairfax County Baseball Little League. After moving to Stafford County, VA in 1976 he became active in civic work and was elected to the Board of Supervisors in 1983. He served as Chairman from 1985 to 1987. He was elected to a second term in 1988. During his tenure the county built four new elementary, two new middle schools, a new library, and a new administration center. He was also a driving force in creating a regional airport. He was most proud of not raising taxes during his eight year term. After leaving office he continued to actively participate in community and civic projects. These projects included serving on the Stafford County Wetlands Board and on the Emergency Response Citizens Assistance Team.
He was the beloved husband for 32 years of Phyllis Wood Marceron; devoted father of Jeanne P. Ring and her husband Timothy of Edgewater, MD and Laura L. Franklin and her husband Gary of Rockville, MD. Stepson George E. Tyson and his wife Jacqueline of Minneapolis, MN; and, Stepson Jon M. Holladay and his wife Margo of Alexandria, VA survive. He was preceded in death by his son, Ralph Martin (Marty) Marceron. He is also survived by his father and mother, Elmer I. Marceron and Doris Grigsby Marceron of Silver Spring, MD, his sister Joan Schelling and her husband Dave Schelling of Oakland, MD, his former wife Patricia Riley Calvert and her husband Cam of Estero, Florida. Additionally he is survived by grandchildren Timothy J. Ring, Jr. of Baltimore, MD, Michael Paul Ring of Edgewater, MD, Morgan and Sydney Franklin of Rockville, MD, and Matthew, Spencer and Alexander Tyson of Minneapolis, MN.
A memorial gathering will be held Friday, December 1, 2006 from 7:00-9:00 pm at Found and Sons Funeral Chapels-Cremation Service, corner of Courthouse Road and Southpoint Parkway. A memorial Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, December 2, 2006 at 11:00 am at St. William of York Catholic Church, 3130 Jefferson Davis Highway, Stafford, VA 22554. Following the services a reception will be held at the Belmont Pavilion at Gari Melchers' Home and Studio, 224 Washington Street, Fredericksburg, VA 22405.
