Phyllis Hart Martin's Obituary
Phyllis Hart Martin, 91, of Culpeper, VA died Tuesday, June 20, 2023 at The Harbor at Renaissance. She was born April 29, 1932 in Ashland, KY to the late Henry and Hazel Hart. Phyllis was a member of Culpeper Presbyterian Church where she served as a Deacon.
Phyllis graduated from the University of Kentucky where she majored in Business Administration and was a member of the Alpha Delta Pi Sorority. Over the years she lived in Roanoke, VA; Baghdad, Iraq; Lynchburg, VA; Norfolk, VA; Atlanta, GA; Binghamton, NY; Wimbledon, England; and Syracuse, NY. Eventually she and her family settled in Culpeper, VA to pursue the family business founded by her father, Rental Uniform Service. Many years of happiness were enjoyed spending time with extended family, on the tennis court, golf course, traveling, and games of Bridge or Blackjack with dear friends.
Generous in spirit, Phyllis cherished her family first and foremost. She also dedicated her time and resources to the local Board of Social Services, Helping Hand of Culpeper, Culpeper Hospital Auxiliary, and Germanna College, including the Monte Carlo Fundraiser.
She is survived by her devoted son, Thomas Gregory Martin (Kristi) of Columbia, TN; grandchildren Thomas Young Martin III (Jenna) of Brentwood, TN and Cramer Hart Martin of Nashville, TN; and a great-granddaughter, Ada Hart Martin of Brentwood, TN.
Additional survivors include nieces and nephews, Norman Blake Martin (Diana) of Bedford, VA; Anthony Hart Martin (Mary Helen) of Auburn, AL; Kimberly Ann Martin of Alexandria, VA; Patricia Martin Bunch of Hood River, OR; and Magnolia Blake Martin of Fredericksburg, VA; and 9 great-nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Susan Leigh Martin on April 30, 2023; sister, Patricia Hart Hudson; and the father of her children, Thomas Young Martin.
A graveside service for both Phyllis and her daughter, Susan, will be held at Fairview Cemetery, Sperryville Pike, Culpeper, VA at 3pm on Thursday, June 29, 2023, followed by a reception for family and friends at The Country Club of Culpeper from 4-6pm.
