Phillip Johnson, Jr.'s Obituary
Phillip Johnson, Jr., 79, of Culpeper, died Saturday, December 2, 2006 at his residence surrounded by his loving family. He was born on June 15, 1927 in Griffinsburg, VA to the late Phillip Johnson, Sr. and Jenny Gray Johnson.
Mr. Johnson was a member of Good Hope Baptist Church. He worked for Bingham and Taylor for 29 years and prior to that he worked construction in many places. He was a hard working man who cared deeply for his family and friends.
He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Grace Fanatta Johnson of Culpeper, and his three daughters, Phyllis Ann Kilby and her husband, Larry of Madison., Donna Marie Brown and her husband, Steve of Culpeper, and Celeste Fanatta Williams and her husband, Allan of Culpeper.
Additional survivors include his brother, Clarence Johnson and his wife, Blanche of Culpeper; three sisters, Pearl Shanks of Reva, Fannie Torney of Upper Marlboro, MD and Katherine Hill of New Jersey; seven grandchildren, Traywann Terrell and her husband, James, Raymond Kirkley, Jr., Brandon Kilby, Allan Williams, Jr., Terrence Williams, Patrick Williams, and Kendra Brown; three step-grandchildren, Larry Kilby, Jr., Kassandra Kilby and Patrick Wilson; one great grandchild, Malachi Terrell; devoted cousin, John Scott, William “Fess” Gray, cousin (more like a brother) Freddie Shanks, Robert Henry Shanks, and Theodore Johnson were very special nephews, plus a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brothers, Fred Gray and Bob Johnson and his sisters, Annabelle Brown, Gertrude Chandler, and Edna Shanks.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, December 5, 2006 from 7-8 p.m. at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel, 850 Sperryville Pike Culpeper, VA 22701.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, December 6, 2006 at 11 a.m. at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel with Rev. Robert Strother officiating.
Interment will follow in Good Hope Cemetery on Norman Rd., Culpeper.
Pallbearers will be Freddie Shanks, Theodore Johnson, Robert Henry Shanks, William Gray, Raymond Kirkley, Sr. and Charles Johnson. Honorary Pallbearers will be Raymond Kirkley, Jr., Brandon Kilby, Allan Williams, Jr., Terrence Williams, Patrick Williams, Larry Kilby, Jr. and John Scott.
Memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Hospice of the Rapidan, P.O. Box 1715 Culpeper, VA 22701.
