Although my time at Ferry Farm Elementary was short, Pearl welcomed me with open arms! She took great care of “her” teachers and students. May sweet memories comfort all of you during this time.

Good Afternoon Gary Jett and family. It is so bittersweet when a much loved family member "goes home. You reflect on all of the cherished memories while experiencing the pain of letting go. My mother Pauline Shacklette worked for many years with your mother. She would always share the days' events with our family around the dinner table each night. We heard stories about the G&H "Circle of Friends" including Pearl, Alice Newton, Clara Payne, Estelle Gallahan, Helen Latham, and Nyla. They all cared about each other and had a great deal of fun during a much simpler time in Fredericksburg. My uncle, James Butler (Pee Wee) was the Amalgamated Textile Workers Union, Shop Steward, at the G&H, for many years including the rough times. There was another connection, my father, Harry Shacklette, worked in the shipping department at the Virginia Shoe Company. The staff I can remember were Duval Sullivan and Pie Fines. In the spring and summer my mom used to walk up from the G&H to the VA Shoe location (in the Ristorante Renato's space) to have a brown bag lunch with my dad in Hurkamp Park. In those days a woman would never consider such a walk without a "wingman", So I feel quite certain they made the trip together more than once. There was also the infamous "Pony Restaurant" that served great comfort food. I will lift your family up in prayer. God Bless All.

Gary~I am so sorry to learn of y our mother's passing. She was such a kind lady and worked so well with children. I first met her at Gayle Jr. High when you were in my Social Studies Class. Then later I saw her with Sharon shopping, etc. You have inherited her calm, laid back demeanor so her physical "person" will live on through you. Know that she has her spiritual body singing in the heavenly choir now. My sympathies on the loss of such an integral member of your family. I remember so well when I lost my own mother in Sept. 1986 on Route 218. Spiritually she is guiding me and warning me every day of my life now. I pray your mother will "accompany" you throughout the rest of your life in the same manner. As a fellow White Oaker, I stand ready to assist you in your period of grieving in any way I can. Just ask.
Gary, and family. Sorry for your loss. Our thoughts an prayers are with all of you. All our love Roni and Jim Matthews
Pearl was a great friend and neighbor at Falls Run. She helped me so much as I am an amputee and have MS. i moved from Falls Run in October 2019, but missed her then. May her family, whom she loved so much, find comfort she's at peace.

She was a very hardworking lad at Ferry Farm Four of my 6 children remembered her and how she could remember their names. She seemed to be able to make her work her play. God bless her and her family and friends mourning her loss.
