Paul David Young's Obituary
Paul David Young passed away at Culpeper Health and Rehabilitation on Tuesday, August 23, 2011. Paul was born June 14, 1929 on the family farm near Rileyville, VA, one of ten children of the late Edward and Ida Mae Young.
In 1948, Paul enlisted in the Marine Corps, where he served with honor for twenty years. During the Battle of Chosin Reservoir in the Korean War in 1950, he was wounded and spent three months recuperating in Bethesda Naval Hospital. Stationed in DC in 1951, Paul served on the USMC drill team and the color guard at the White House during the Truman Administration, meeting his bride-to-be, Galax, VA native Joyce Felts, that year. He was awarded a Bronze Star and two additional Purple Hearts after serving combat duty in Vietnam in 1965 and ’66. After retirement from the USMC, Paul worked until retirement from Eastern Airlines at National Airport.
His hobbies included fly fishing, gardening and reading. He was an excellent bowler and enjoyed watching sports as well.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Joyce Young; his sons, Charles David Young and his wife, Ronda, Dennis Paul Young and his wife, Melody, Terence Dale Young and his wife, Claudia; his three granddaughters, Victoria, Chelsea and Sophia and numerous other extended family and friends.
In addition to his parents Paul is preceded in death by several of his brothers and sisters
A service will be held On Friday, August 26, 2011 at 1 p.m. at the chapel of the National Museum of the Marine Corps at Quantico with Pastor Mike Dodson officiating. Burial will follow in Quantico National Cemetery.
