Paul Johnson's Obituary
Paul Johnson, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, returned home to his Heavenly Father on November 15, 2025, surrounded by the love of his devoted wife and family.
Paul lived a life of quiet creativity, steady kindness, and a unique gift for bringing beauty into the lives of all who knew him. From a young age, he felt a deep desire to care for Heavenly Father’s creations. As a small child, after his mother asked him to help save several struggling houseplants left out in the cold, he kept them at his bedside and lovingly nursed them back to life. The next spring, he found a baby sparrow that had fallen from its nest during a storm and tenderly fed it tiny pieces of earwig. This instinct to nurture—plants, animals, and people—never left him.
Paul never met a stranger. He had a remarkable ability to make others feel seen, welcomed, and valued—whether they needed a listening ear, a helping hand, or simply someone to brighten their day. He lived the gospel of Jesus Christ through quiet action, compassion, humility, and daily acts of service. His creativity touched everything around him, and the world was a gentler, more beautiful place because he was in it.
There seemed to be little Paul could not accomplish with his vision and craftsmanship. When challenges arose, he found solutions with patience and ingenuity. With his hands, some wood, fabric, or paint, he transformed the inside of their home into a bit of heaven on earth. Through his love and devotion, that home was always filled with a peaceful spirit of joy and warmth.
Paul’s greatest joy was his family. He loved them deeply, and they will forever be shaped by the example of his humor, faith, patience, and imagination. Though his earthly journey has ended, his legacy of love, devotion, and goodness will continue to live on through all who were blessed to know him.
Even as his body weakened, Paul’s quick and gentle wit remained with him until the very end, offering moments of laughter and light to those gathered at his side.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy; his children, Jennifer (John) Pierce, Eric (Anna) Young, and Michael (Stephanie) Young; and his grandchildren, Taylor, Gavin, Emma, Duncan, Liam, Joshua, Carter, Kaylie, Lilly, Ethan, Eli, Brielle, and Josie. He is also survived by his siblings, Arlo, Stephen, Susie, Karen, Kenneth, Richard, Mary, John, Emily, Thomas, Samie, Philip, and Rocky. He was preceded in death by his parents, Duane and Sammy, and his brother, Ben.
A viewing will be held on November 25, 2025, from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ Latter-day Saints, 420 Willow Lawn Lane, Culpeper, VA. Funeral services will follow at the church.
Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery, RT. 522, Culpeper, VA.
Paul’s family expresses heartfelt gratitude to all who have supported them throughout his illness. They find comfort in the knowledge that families are eternal and look forward with faith to the day when they will be reunited with him.
In consideration of Paul's love of flowers, the family asks that everyone wear something bright and floral to the services.
