Otis W. Wharton
Otis W. Wharton, 89 of Madison died Friday, August 26, 2011 in Stephens City surrounded by his family.
He was born December 4, 1921 in Rappahannock County to the late William Frank Wharton and the late Sarah Elizabeth McFarland Wharton.
Otis worked through his life having served in the U.S Army during the Second World War then as a independent milk truck hauler for the Culpeper district, transporting milk from the dairy farms to the bottling plants for distribution and then finally retiring from the Coke-Cola company in New Baltimore where he provided many services.
Otis was known for his love of music, particularly by musician George Jones. He also enjoyed the game of horseshoes and spending time with his sidekick Boots, the family dog.
He is survived by five children, Mary Ann Wright and her husband, Jimmie, of Rixeyville; Otis “Larry” Wharton and his wife, Teresa Lynn, of Unionville; Vickey Lynn Gould and her husband, Philip, of Stephens City; Michael W. Wharton, Jr. of Reva and Betty Lynn Foster and her husband, Wayne, of Stanley. Additional survivors include twenty-one grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren.
Otis is also survived by two special nieces, Doris McManious and Joyce Ann Hoffman, and a host of close extended family members and friends.
The family would like to send a great deal of gratitude and thanks to the Hospice nurses and staff specifically Mary Dillon and Sheila Johns.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Eunice Betty Brown Wharton, a son, Michael W. Wharton, two sisters, Ollie and Laura Wharton, and two brothers, Johnny and Clifford Wharton.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, August 30, 2011 from 6-8 p.m. at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel, 850 Sperryville Pike, Culpeper, Virginia.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, August 31, 2011 at 2 p.m. in the Found and Sons Chapel with Pastor Jerry Hall officiating.
Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery.
Military honors will be provided by American Legion Post 330 and VFW Post 2524.
Pallbearers will be James Finks, Ricky Clatterbuck, Larry Butler and Jimmie, Eddie and Jamie Wright.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Piedmont, 675 Peter Jefferson Parkway, Suite 300, Charlottesville, VA 22911.
