Oliver "Chillie" Smith Wood, III's Obituary
Oliver “Chillie” Smith Wood, III, 76, of Culpeper, died Tuesday, October 8, 2024, at UVA Culpeper Hospital. He was born March 17, 1948, in Charlottesville to the late Frances W and Oliver S. Wood, Jr.
Chillie was an avid Civil War relic hunter in his early years. He also enjoyed collecting coins and canoeing. He was a building inspector for the towns of Culpeper and Herndon and eventually worked as a private inspector. He was a charter member and lifetime member of Reva Volunteer Fire Dept.
He is survived by his wife, Karen Elaine Wood; one son, William Wood (Nichole); two grandchildren, Mason Wood and Reid Wood; two brothers-in-law, Harry Ricketts and Benny Joe Ricketts (Linda); his good friend, who was like a brother, Dennis Cox; and a host of extended family and friends.
In addition to his parents, Chillie is preceded in death by one uncle, Miles Sclater.
A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 15, 2024, at Fairview Cemetery, Culpeper, VA.
