Norman L. McCullough Sr.'s Obituary
Norman L. McCullough, Sr., passed away Wednesday, December 21, 2022 at his home.
He is survived by his wife, BJ McCullough; daughters, Cynthia (Wil) Vines and Sharon McCullough; granddaughters, Courtney Hamm (Frisco), and Carmen James (Steven); six great-grandchildren; and sister’s-in-law, nieces, nephews, and other extended family.
Norman was preceded in death by his son, Norman L. McCullough, Jr. and grandson, Christopher Vines.
He retired from the Mitre Corp., McLean, VA in 1993, and from 25 years of teaching at USDA. He and his wife relocated from Fairfax to Spotsylvania County in 2000.
Norman was a man of faith who had a gift for teaching, a love of travel and reading history, and a warm spirit for reaching out to people. He proudly participated in the civil rights movement, especially inspired by the 1963 March on Washington. He was also proud of his service with the US Air Force.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 7, 2023 at Ferry Farm Baptist Church, 1 Westmoreland Drive, Fredericksburg. The family will receive friends half an hour prior. In lieu of flowers, his family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to the American Cancer Society, Ronald McDonald House, or to Doctors Without Borders.
