Norma Evans Redfern's Obituary
Norma Redfern passed away Saturday, October 23, 2021 surrounded by her loving family.
Norma was born in Shreveport, Louisiana in 1943. Raised in a military family, they moved from Shreveport to Japan, from Georgia to Alaska, and finally to Fort Belvoir, Virginia. The family moved to Fredericksburg in 1973. Norma was the owner of Redfern & Sons in downtown Fredericksburg from 1986 until 2003 when she also retired from Quantico Marine Base. After retirement, she pursued her love for writing and continued her involvement with Riverside Writers, a group that opened doors to explore her poetry, stories and children’s books. She was recognized for several accomplishments, was published in local anthologies, and with the publishing of her books, Molly Raccoon and Wesley Fox, and The Lion and the Butterfly, she said she hoped to inspire children to express themselves with the written word.
She is survived by her sons, Eric Redfern (Gregory) of Ladysmith, Virginia and Steven Redfern; three grandsons, Hunter, Liam, and Camden of Supply, North Carolina; and daughter-in-law, Mary “Becky” Redfern of Fredericksburg, Virginia. Norma was very close to her cousins, Linda Strickland, Joan Bondurant, and Donna Farr. Norma had many friends that she considered loved ones.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Lloyd F. Redfern; a wonderful son that she was blessed to have, Clayton Redfern, who passed away April 16, 2021; and her parents, Harley and Mildred C. Evans, of Supply, North Carolina.
Norma wanted everyone to come together for a farewell party. She expressed to Eric and Steven that this was her way to say good-bye with love and gratitude that she was given by all. The farewell will start at 12:00 p.m. Saturday, November 13, 2021 at Ladysmith Village Pool/Clubhouse, 17242 Library Blvd, Ruther Glen, VA 22546. A memorial service will begin at 12:30 p.m. with Charles “Bootsie” Bullock officiating. Refreshments and food will follow until 3:00 p.m. While we encourage safety precautions due to COVID-19, we will practice social distancing and masks are encouraged.
