Naomi Fae Gaor's Obituary
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved mother, Naomi Fae Adkins Gaor, at the age of 83. She passed away on June 22, 2025, at 6:00 p.m. at the home of her daughter in Locust, North Carolina.
Naomi was born on July 19, 1941, to the late Herman Frederick Adkins (d. June 24, 1982) and the late Mabel Elizabeth McCallister Adkins (d. July 4, 1948). After the early loss of her mother, Naomi was raised by her grandparents, the late Bernie B. Adkins (d. June 19, 1977) and the late Isabell Yeagar Adkins (d. June 7, 1962), in Branchland, West Virginia.
Naomi was the eldest of eight siblings, the late Frederick Ray Adkins, who passed at three months old (d. June 27, 1944), Rita Mae Adkins Arbaugh (Gene), Obita Kay Adkins Nelson (Harold 'Buddy'), Rena Gay Adkins Chaney (Ruben), The late Gary Ray Adkins (Debbie) (d. October 2, 2021), Anita Renee Adkins Fulks (Bill), and the late Dorothy Oneida Adkins Toppins (Barry) (d. December 3, 2011).
On June 16, 1963, Naomi was united in marriage to Mario Brazal Gaor. After 39 years of marriage, he preceded her in death on November 24, 2002.
Naomi was a devoted mother to three children, Mario Brazal Gaor Jr. (Lisa) of Swansea, IL, Brenda Diane Gaor Flaherty (Dan) of Locust, NC, and Keith Ivan Gaor of King George, VA; she was a proud grandmother to, Mario Raphael Gaor (Emma) of Swansea, IL; a grandmother at heart to, the late Anthony Estes of Woodland Hills, CA (d. July 14, 2021), Samuel Dominic Wyatt of St. Louis, MO, Matthew Alexander Coppinger of Pineville, NC, and Julie Marie Lisak of Pineville, NC; and her legacy continues through her great-grandchildren, Daniel Florian Raphael Lisak, Kaio Kendrick Gaor, Margaret Saniea Coppinger, and Isaac Satoru Gaor. Also cherishing her memory are her beloved aunts, Arzetta Maxine Adkins Wilkins (Ray) and Wilma Louise Adkins English (John), along with many cherished nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Naomi was a proud Navy wife who served as President of the Navy Wives Club while stationed in Kittery, ME, and served with Navy Relief in Pearl Harbor, HI. She volunteered in many roles at each duty station throughout her husband’s 30-year Naval career, always supporting her family and community.
An avid reader she found joy in embroidery, crochet, Artex, and sewing. She made countless lap quilts for veterans and the elderly. A passionate historian, Naomi began recording the Adkins family history at the age of 12, a project she lovingly pursued throughout her life.
Naomi brought warmth and kindness to every life she touched. She will be remembered for her resilience, her generous spirit, and the unconditional love she gave so freely. Her memory will be a lasting light in the lives of those who loved her.
A graveside service will be held at 9:00 a.m. Monday, August 11, 2025 at Arlington National Cemetery.
