Nancy Lee Burns' Obituary
Nancy Lee Burns, 87, of Stafford County passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, November 2, 2025. She was born in 1938 in Salem, Ohio, the only child of the late Charles and Edna McFarland.
Nancy was a devoted woman of Christ and a beloved member of her church where she spent many years serving as the pianist and treasurer. She retired from Stafford County Public Schools in 2008, after serving 32 years of service. She then spent her days tending to her vegetable garden as well as her many flower gardens, spent more time with her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed family gatherings, reading, playing board games, trying new restaurants and playing with her two cats. Nancy also loved to travel and was always up for a road trip to enjoy new experiences.
Nancy is survived by her four children, George Burns Jr. (Becky), Kathy Burns Mitchell, Jessica Burns, and Martha Burns Hailey (Lewis-D); her three grandchildren, Michael Mitchell, Cori Hailey and Lewis W. Hailey; and numerous nieces and nephews and many friends.
In addition to her parents, Nancy was preceded in death by her husband, George E. Burns Sr.; and her son-in-law, Lewis S. Hailey.
The family will receive friends from 12:00 – 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 22, 2025 at International Revival Outreach Center (IROC Church), 150 Leeland Rd., Fredericksburg, VA; where the funeral service will begin at 1:00 p.m. A repast and celebration of life will immediately follow the service in the church annex building.
Interment will be at 12:00 p.m. Monday November 24, 2025 at Culpeper National Cemetery (Old Section), 305 US Ave., Culpeper, VA.
Flowers may be sent to Found and Sons Funeral Chapel, 10719 Courthouse Road, Fredericksburg, VA by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, November 21, 2025.
