Myrtlee Isley Helmick's Obituary
Believed to be a descendent of Catherine Cooke who came to the ‘New World’ on the Mayflower, Myrtlee Elizabeth Isley Helmick, 88, of Culpeper, Virginia, passed away at Culpeper Health and Rehabilitation Center in Culpeper, Virginia, on Saturday, April 21, 2012.
Myrtlee was born on January 17, 1924, to the late Daniel Henry Isley and Minnie Elizabeth Coble Isley in Richmond, Virginia.
In addition to her parents; she was preceded in death by her brother, Daniel Lucian Isley.
She attended Drexel University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and studied architecture and drafting there. She was a long time member the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Women's Republican Club of Virginia, and a leader in the Cub Scouts of America. She enjoyed cooking, genealogy research, and reading. She is survived by her husband, Melvin Kenneth Helmick, Senior, of Culpeper, Virginia; her sister, Malinda Isley Wayland and her husband John Wayland of Warrenton, Virginia; and her children, Melvin Kenneth Helmick, Junior, and his sweetheart Josette Christine Mandela of Jacksonville, Florida; Meredith Lee Helmick Burdulis and her husband Louis Burdulis, Junior, of Atlanta, Georgia; Michael Reed Helmick, Senior, and his wife Gina Mae Torres Helmick of Burke, Virginia; and Mark Lyle Helmick and his wife Jane Elizabeth Day Helmick of Newport News, Virginia; her grandchildren, Stephanie, Cailee, Katherine, and Michael Reed Helmick, Junior. She also has a number of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Memorial services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 6, 2012, at the Found and Sons Funeral Home at 850 Sperryville Pike, Culpeper, Virginia. The family will receive friends from 4 until 5 p.m. after the memorial service at the same location.
Myrtlee decided to donate her remains for research and training.
