Myrtle Staples' Obituary
Myrtle Cox Staples, 88, of Colonial Beach died Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2007, at Mary Washington Hospital.
Mrs. Staples was a homemaker and had worked as an Avon cosmetics saleslady earlier in her life. As an Avon representative, she enjoyed socializing with her friends and customers.
She also enjoyed gardening, playing bingo and taking care of her grandchildren. She actively supported the town schools and was a member of Colonial Beach Baptist Church and the Ladies VFW Auxiliary.
She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, and will be missed by all.
Mrs. Staples was born in Stafford County Jan. 18, 1919, to the late William Austin Cox and Augustine Garner Cox. She had four brothers and two sisters.
She was predeceased by her husband, Emmett Veola Staples Sr.; her son, James Conway Staples; and a great-grandson, Nicholas Straughan. Her survivors include three daughters, Barbara S. Dudley and her husband, Richard, of Woodbridge, Patricia S. Gray and her husband, Lawrence, of Colonial Beach, and Jean Staples of Colonial Beach; three sons, Emmett V. Staples Jr. of Colonial Beach, Mitchell W. Staples Sr. and his wife, Marguerite, of Colonial Beach, and William I. Staples and his wife, Lyn, of King George County; and her daughter-in-law, Susan H. Staples of Montross.
Additional survivors include one brother, Robert Cox Sr. and his wife, Lucy, of Stafford County; 11 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral will be held Friday, Sept. 28, at 11 a.m. at Colonial Beach Baptist Church, with the family receiving friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in Historyland Memorial Park, King George.
