Myrtle Yowell Leake, 98, of Culpeper died Sunday, January 28, 2018 at English Meadows Senior Living Community. She was born February 9, 1919 in Culpeper to the late Jasper and Pearl Stringfellow Yowell. She is survived by one son Read Obituary
Myrtle Leake was my aunt and served in the military and also worked at the Top Hat Restaurant for years along side of the owners. She had a very interesting life. I regret not attending as I along with my brother, Walker Bowen was not notified of her passing.. She was my mothers only living sister. My name is Nancy Lewis Franklin of Spavinaw, Oklahoma.
Mrytle was the kindest person and generous with all the wonderful baked goods and great conversation. I will cherish the moments that I spent with her.

I first met Ms. Leake at the University of Virginia in 1977 where I was a surgeon and operated on Elizabeth Plevakis, with whom she had a close association. From that time on I saw the two of them every year until Ms Plevakis’ death. I moved to Chicago but when I came to Virginia on occasion I tried to stop in Culpeper and pay a visit to Ms. Leake. She always made sure I had something to eat and usually made me a cake or pie to take with me. She was a wonderful woman and I hope to be able to attend her service this week since I moved back to Virginia last year. Please accept my condolences on her passing.

Myrtle was the nicest woman on the planet. She was generous with her time, loved to cook and loved to have company. She especially loved sharing her lifetime memories with people who were interested. She will be missed.
So sorry to hear of Mrs. Leake's passing. She was such wonderful person. My husband would mow her grass for her and she would always feed him or give him something to drink. Loved her coconut pie....delicious. She made beautiful quilts. Our daughter Lindsey would often go with Anthony to visit her and her little do "skeeter" ( I believe that was his name) while he mowed. She always sat on the back row of the church and we would talk to her before church and she would always give us a peppermint candy. Just knowing she is in the Lord's hands now is such a comfort to us.
