Monique Lily Van Bastelaer's Obituary
Monique Lily Van Bastelaer, 82, formerly of Culpeper, VA, died Saturday, August 22, 2015 at The Colonnades in Charlottesville, VA.
She was born August 25, 1932 in Aix en Provence, France to Charles and Angele (Ricoeur) Grivel, where she stayed until her mid 20’s. She then moved to the U.S. to be a Nanny. It was in Washington, D.C. where she met her husband Xavier and they moved to Culpeper, VA. She was a kindergarten teacher at the Culpeper Baptist Church for many years and then a teacher’s aide in the Culpeper County school system. Lily loved volunteering at the library and was an avid reader. She also loved animals.
Survivors include her son, Frederic (Sheila) Vanbastelaer of Centerville, IN; her three grandchildren, Brittany Vanbastelaer of Dayton, OH, Austin Vanbastelaer of Los Angeles, CA, and Alexis Vanbastelaer of West Lafayette, IN.
Her husband, her parents, her brother, Louis Grivel and her three sisters, Edith Corcos, Genevieve Garnier, and Simone Gueguen preceded Lily in death.
A graveside service will be held on Thursday, August 27, 2015 at 11 am at Fairview Cemetery.
