Milton Davis Compton's Obituary
Milton Davis Compton, 93 a lifelong resident of Culpeper passed away Sunday, December 16, 2012 at a local hospital. He was born April 16, 1919 in Culpeper to the late Milton Elias Compton and Evie Burke Compton.
Mr. Compton was a lifetime member of The Culpeper County Volunteer Fire Department Company #1 . With a waiver signed by his mother Evie Burke when he was just 16 years old, he joined the Fire Department more than 70 Years ago. Mr. Compton was the oldest living and longest acting member of the Department. He was also a lifetime member of The V.F.W. Post # 2524 in Culpeper. Milton enjoyed working with wood and built numerous homes for his family. They still live in these homes today. He enjoyed spending time with his friends and family telling stories regarding his enlistment in the Army during WWII. He especially cherished the time he spent with his grand children and great grandchildren. Milton will be greatly missed by all who knew him as well as his pets “Snickers”, “Spunky” and “Tigger”.
Mr. Compton is survived by two daughters; Susan Compton and Betsy Burke both of Culpeper. Two Grandchildren; Mandy Burke of Culpeper, Chuck Burke and his Fiance Jackie Wheeler of Culpeper. Four Great Grandchildren; Gavin and Aiden Burke of Culpeper, Josh Embrey of Culpeper and Lexi Burke of King George. In addition, Milton is also survived by extended members of his family Kimmy Diaz, Mitch Rosenberg and his caregiver Judy Garrison.
Mr. Compton is preceded in death by his wife, Helen Petty Compton, a sister, Frances Purl, a son-in-law, John P. Burke and a grandson Josh Burke and his wife Tori Burke.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, December 19, 2012 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel of Culpeper, 850 Sperryville Pike Culpeper.
A graveside service will be held Thursday, December 20, 2012 at 11:00 AM at Fairview Cemetery with Pastor Randy Orndorff officiating.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Mr. Compton’s name to the Culpeper County Volunteer Fire Department 151-153 West Davis Street Culpeper, Virginia 22701 and/or VFW Post #2524 P.O. Box 550 Culpeper, VA 22701.
